Course description

On completion of the beginner level course, we highly recommend taking our Diamond Grading for Intermediates course to gain a more in-depth, technical understanding of diamonds.

We also offer beginner level and intermediate level courses in gemmology.

Entry requirements

No previous experience is required, this course is suitable for beginners.

What you will learn

Students will learn the properties of a diamond and understand the 4C’s that determine the value of diamonds.

 

Colour: The importance of the white light, fluorescence and master stones for grading.

Clarity: The nature of the internal characteristics and description of inclusions.

Cut: History of different cuts, the concept of proportions and the challenge of polishing to maximise the brilliance.

Carat: Evaluating weight and size.

 

Students will also learn about the simulants that masquerade as diamonds.
