Virgil launches own-brand jewellery, as his Louis Vuitton sales smash Supreme record

Design star Virgil Abloh, head creative at Louis Vuitton and Off-White, has announced that he will be turning his considerable talents to jewellery. The designer is launching his own luxury jewellery brand under his name, and teased out the first designs on Instagram. He once wore a necklace made of paperclips, and Abloh is returning to this motif, but this time it will be in gold and diamonds.

Jewellery and watch retailer with 21 stores goes into administration

Discount jewellery and watch retailer Chapelle has gone into administration, putting its 21 stores and 250 employees at risk, as well as potentially leaving suppliers out of pocket. The family-owned chain, which is headquartered in Nottingham, has blamed business rates, rising minimum wages costs and a slump in retail sales for its misfortunes.

Now, you can also use RFID technology to make your jewels pay for things. In the luxury market, Armillon is tapping into this new culture with a precious bracelet that costs upwards of £34,000 and has a contactless minimum of £200,000 instead of £30.

Poundland’s dummy engagement ring leaves jewellery buyers divided

Placeholder rings are a great way to facilitate people who want to propose to their partners with a ring, but still allow them to choose the perfect engagement ring together. Many jewellers offer this service, with silver placeholder rings, and now Poundland has jumped on the bandwagon with a silver tone and red stone ring in a heart-shaped box for – you guessed it – a pound.
