UK Jewellery Awards 2018 – the winners

Thursday was a night to remember for many in the British jewellery industry, as the UK Jewellery Awards took place in London’s Honourable Artillery Gardens. With awards ranging from New Designer of the Year to Marketing Campaign of the Year, and new award Entrepreneurial Spirit Award, presented by BAJ Digest editor Rachael Taylor, these were the winners of the most prestigious jewellery awards of the year.

Real petals preserved for eternity: Boucheron’s new high jewellery collection is a triumph of nature and technology

Boucheron’s latest high jewellery collection, unveiled during Paris Couture Week last week, is a technical masterpiece. Working with French universities, the jeweller has found a way of using MRI scans to perfectly capture flowers for mould making, and a partnership with a petalist means these high jewels can be adorned with real blooms.

New consultancy firm launches to debunk myths about ethical jewellery  

Former Fairtrade Gold exec Victoria Waugh has teamed up with supply chain expert Vanessa Brain to create a new business that will advise jewellers on how to operate ethically and better understand their footprint on the world. The agency, named V&V, will also help with materials sourcing and navigating paperwork and red tape.

Penelope Cruz Turns Jewellery Designer For Atelier Swarovski

Better known for its fashion collaborations, Atelier Swarovski is now pushing into the fine jewellery world, choosing to do so with Fairtrade gold and lab-grown coloured gemstones and diamonds. The brand presented three collections of fine jewels in Paris last week, one of which was created by actress Penelope Cruz.

Chaumet collaborates with Kenyan artist Evans Mbugua on a high jewellery collection inspired by sub-Saharan Africa

Rather than plundering the archives, Chamuet’s latest offering during Paris Couture Week was inspired by a modern movement – contemporary African art. The collection is a bold work of colour and texture, and includes a line of animal brooches designed by artist Evans Mbugua, whose engaging artworks were what inspired the entire Tresors d’Afrique collection.
