Our four-day course provides an intensive learning experience into the world of CAD Design. You will learn CAD using one of the most professional and long-term cost-effective jewellery design softwares available on the market, Gemvision Matrix.

Gemvision Matrix is a product design software which enables the creation of photorealistic rendering and models for 3D printing and manufacturing. This course is designed for individuals looking to develop their digital design skill-set and work within fine jewellery design.

Whilst having previous computer design knowledge is advantageous, this course requires no prior IT knowledge. However, this course does require experience in jewellery design drawing, jewellery manufacturing, and wax carving.


The course is split into four units:

Unit 1: Introduction to Matrix CAD

  • Introduction to CAD and CAM
  • Introduction to Gemvision Matrix
  • Building curved objects
  • Layers
  • Precision modelling
  • Introduction to transformation commands

Unit 2: Introduction to Solid Modelling

  • Introduction to solid modelling inc. booleans, revolve and rail revolve, sweep1, and 2 rail sweep
  • Multiple types of ring construction
  • Introduction to Rendering techniques
  • Preparing files for rapid prototyping

Unit 3: Introduction to Solid Modelling

  • Solid modelling inc. booleans, revolve and rail and sweep1
  • Multiple types of ring construction
  • Rendering
  • Preparing files for Rapid Prototyping

Unit 4: Design Skills

  • The Gem on Curve Command
  • Universal Deformation Tools (UDT) and their application
  • Jewellery Design inc. a crossover ring, bombe ring, chains using object on curve
  • Pave stones and bead settings on a surface

Gemvision Matrix Level 1 Certificate & British Academy of Jewellery Certificate in Beginner Level Matrix CAD

Entry Criteria
No prior IT knowledge or skills are required to take the course.

The successful completion of the Level 3 Diploma in Jewellery Design and Manufacture will allow direct access onto the course. A jewellery bench test will be required for students without a Level  3 Diploma to demonstrate experience in design drawing, jewellery manufacturing, and wax carving.
