Learn the foundations of professional jewellery manufacturing and design, in the most comprehensive and practical beginner’s jewellery course in the UK. During this accredited course, you will learn the essential and basic 2D design, 3D design, and manufacturing skills for jewellers. A large number of contact hours with a range of industry specialists and professional jewellers will provide an insight into the industry and help you to take the first step towards developing the creative and technical skills required to become a jeweller. The emphasis of the course is to provide you with a foundation of knowledge and fundamental technical, design and production skills to be able to begin a career in jewellery. Modules are delivered in a series of creative technical projects to provide an exciting jewellery education. This course is the ideal stepping stone to progress onto BAJ’s three-year Diploma programme in Jewellery Design and Manufacturing.
Our practice-based Diploma is taught at our Hatton Garden jewellery workshops, where you will have access to all the tools and equipment within our professional studios. Based in the heart of London’s Jewellery Quarter, Hatton Garden, you’ll be close to industry and culture, as well as excellent transport links.
A dedicated team of tutors with years of jewellery industry experience will be teaching and guiding you through the entire course – our personal and hands-on approach to training guarantees that each student receives unparalleled tutor contact time.
The course runs for 2 days a week over a 10-month period, allowing students to work alongside earning a qualification.

- Introduction to piercing, filing, forming, soldering and engraving
- CAD (Computer Design) Skills
- 2D (Drawing Design) Techniques
- Metallurgy History and Social Context of Jewellery
- Current Jewellery Industry Trades and Technologies
- Design critical thinking

Level: Beginners
Entry requirements: No prior knowledge or skills are required to take the course but prior jewellery knowledge may be advantageous.
Course dates: Courses will start on the 10th or 13th September 2018, with two days per week. (Monday and Tuesday or Thursday and Friday)

Qualification: Successful completion of this course earns the student a British Academy of Jewellery Official Certificate of Completion and an (SQA) Level 3 Diploma in Jewellery Design and Manufacture.
