Intensive Jewellery Making Techniques Series – Ring Project

COURSE OVERVIEW

This intensive course will take you through an intensive project in which you will create all the component parts of a traditional Victorian cluster ring. You will carve the settings by hand and assemble the parts during a series of exercises designed to create muscle memory when creating with hand tools, increasing the speed and accuracy of your work.

Over the course of the making process, you will also acquire simple quality control techniques to ensure excellence throughout the make.

Held in small groups at our cutting-edge facilities, this intensive course ensures that you will get the individualised support and guidance you need to progress from one of our highly skilled and experienced tutors.

Course Content
Course Content

Day 1
Exercise in hand eye coordination at the bench. Measuring, marking, cutting and filing. Centre punching, drilling, carving stone mountings by hand.
Day 2
Shaping metal to create the components of a traditional cluster ring. Carve mountings for stones.
Day 3
Join components together with pick soldering technique and use borax and graphite to control the flow of solder.
Day 4
Buffing and polishing the ring.
Day 5
Flush setting the stones and final polish.

Course duration: Five sessions of seven hours, Monday to Friday, between 9:30am and 5pm. The course runs from 9th until 13th August 2021.

Delivery: This course is taught on campus in London.
