Suitable for beginner and intermediate jewellers who want to practise and refine their jewellery-making, our Jewellery Bench Skills: Create a Layered Pendant short course is a four-day programme of layered jewellery-making classes giving you the opportunity to make real progress with your skills. Our experienced tutors will guide you every step of the way as you create your pendant, offering personalised feedback to ensure that you are able not only to bring your design to life but also to make significant improvements to your jewellery-making skills.

Course description

Making a layered pendant is a great way to practise and experiment with a range of jewellery manufacturing techniques. Working on the pendant’s different components will allow you to hone individual skills before you bring them together to create the finished piece. During the course, you will explore techniques including soldering and riveting, measuring and marking, piercing, filing, forming and shaping, creating findings, buffing, polishing and finishing, as you make your unique and personalised pendant.

Entry requirements

No previous experience is required, this course is suitable for beginners.

Fees & funding


No funding is available for short courses but as a student or alumni of the past 3 years, you may be entitled to a 10% discount. To find out if you are eligible, please enquire to speak with our recruitment team.

What you will learn

In this 4 day workshop, you will explore and refine a range of jewellery-making skills to create a bespoke and handmade layered pendant.

The course includes the following skills and techniques:

  • Hot and cold connections (soldering and riveting)
  • Measure and marking
  • Piercing
  • Filing
  • Forming and shaping
  • Creating findings
  • Buffing, polishing and finishing


You will practice and perfect these techniques to create your unique and personalised pendant and gain valuable skills and experience in jewellery fabrication and manufacture.
