BAJ’s Jewellery Retail Essentials is a course specially designed to meet the needs of jewellery retail professionals and those interested in pursuing a career in the jewellery retail industry. Available both online and in person, this course will give an introduction to the materials and techniques that are used in the production of fine jewellery as well as the correct terms used to discuss jewellery pieces with potential customers. This type of skill set and knowledge is crucial for anyone wishing to engage customers and clients and be a trusted source in guiding the customer to find their perfect piece. A BAJ certificate will be awarded upon completion of the course.

Course description

You will gain an introduction to jewellery history, the UK and global jewellery markets and the legislation around them. Topics covered by the course include the domestic and international jewellery markets, fine jewellery production, gemmology, jewellery components, metallurgy, precious metals, hallmarking, and proper jewellery care.

What you will learn

Students will gain an introduction to jewellery history, gemmology, metallurgy, hallmarking, the domestic and international jewellery markets, types of jewellery, jewellery components, fine jewellery production, job and manufacture, understanding of selling jewellery both in and outside the UK, understand the difference between trade and retail cost and tax, security both online and in-store, customer service, and proper jewellery care.
