On Thursday 9th March at the Academy, we gathered to celebrate the winners of the Quest for Glamour competition. Finalists, judges, tutors and students filled our Langdales campus for an afternoon of drinks, nibbles and prize giving.
For A Quest for Glamour competition, we had asked all current students and alumni to showcase their talents and create a complementing necklace and earrings set designed to dazzle on the red carpet. Participants were required to present three A4 pages showcasing the inspirational imagery, sketches of the idea development and final rendered illustrations. Winners of the competition were up for a chance to win precious gems and the opportunity to present their work.

Having received many great applications, the jury made a tough decision to pick the two most outstanding entries to be awarded at the ceremony.

Our very own Sofie Boons, the Head of Teaching and Learning at BAJ, hosted the ceremony and opened with a discussion on the importance of participating in student competitions, before introducing the two finalists.
The second award went to Xiaoxi Chen who stunned the judges with a beautiful design of a gold and rubies necklace and earrings set.
The first place was awarded to Henrietta Burton Wills who not only designed a stunning gold, diamonds and blue topaz necklace with matching earrings but also presented her design and her inspirational journey in a beautifully bound booklet.

Both winners were awarded BAJ Certificates of Achievements, as well as receiving prizes. Xiaoxin won a beautiful citron, while Henrietta chose a blue topaz as her trophy.

The competition was a great success and we loved seeing the students engaging with the brief and competing for the prizes. We would like to say another massive congratulation to the winners, and a huge thanks to all participants, judges and tutors, as well as Holts Gems who sponsored the gemstones. You all made this competition such a fantastic success!

We are already working on the next brief so keep your eyes peeled and your design skills at the ready for the next challenge!
