How to find your ring size
Many jewellers offer a printable or digital ring-sizing guide that can be used on your computer or smartphone. These guides are often scalable and utilise common household items, like a credit card, to help you compare your ring against different-sized circles, each corresponding to a specific ring size.
What is ring sizing?
When working with a jeweller in person, a simple method to determine ring size is by placing the ring finger on a piece of paper and carefully tracing the inside circumference. The jeweller can then use this outline to identify the correct size. Additionally, a jeweller may determine the size based on where the ring sits on your finger.
When purchasing a ring online, it is possible to measure the size using a similar method. Drawing a circle that matches the ring finger’s inner diameter on paper allows for an approximation of the desired ring size. Each ring size corresponds to a specific inside diameter, so by measuring across the centre of your drawn circle, you can estimate the appropriate size.
There are also apps available, such as the Ring Sizer app, that can provide the inside diameters of various ring sizes. These apps often feature a to-scale circle that users can place a ring on to determine the best size.
What to do after obtaining your ring size?
Once you’ve determined your ring size, it’s important to consider the band width of the ring you intend to purchase. Rings with wider bands tend to fit more snugly, which means you may need to opt for a slightly larger size to ensure comfort. Ensuring the correct fit will prevent discomfort and allow the ring to be worn daily without issue.
