Entry requirements

Our ATHE Level 3 Diploma in Business aims to provide students with the fundamental business and academic skills they need to get ahead in life. It is delivered through a combination of remote and face to face teaching. This ensures maximum flexibility for students who can enjoy both autonomous and in class learning at their own pace. The programme is designed to cater individual learner needs and our experienced tutors and lecturers always ensure student support. 

The programme is designed to lead you to multiple progression routes. The tutors and lecturers give support through individual IAG sessions to their students to help them identify and progress to different progression routes such as: be entrepreneurs, studying for higher education, getting on board with teaching. It is ideal for progression to BAJ Business School’s Higher National Diploma in Business, entrepreneurship and small business management or marketing pathways. You can also utilise your gained knowledge and skills into administration, IT, accounting, e-marketing, leadership and HR related distinguished jobs.  

Course overview

The methods used across this course are varied to enable access to the curriculum for all students. Usual delivery methods include lectures, classroom discussions, case studies, group work and presentations.

Entry requirements

Applicants must be over 19 years old (if they are applying through an Advanced Learner Loan). 

Applicants must have 5 GCSE or more at grades 4-5 (C), or a Level 2 equivalent. 

Mature applicants without formal qualifications require 2 or more years of work experience, a personal statement, English and Maths assessment equivalent to CEFR level B2 (CEFR – The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). 

After application, there will also be a one-to-one interview session to understand applicants’ motivations to learn. 

Initial skills tests are used to help identify gaps and to ensure appropriate learning support can be provided.

Fees & funding

2023/4: £1,987

The course may be fully funded through Advanced Learner Loans or National Skills Funding. 93% of level 3 diploma students at BAJ received funding for their course in 2021. To find out if you could be eligible for full funding or a government funded loan, contact our recruitment team.

Progression

The course has been designed for learners who wish to progress to a business or management degree and may not have the traditional entry qualifications usually required. The course is ideal for progression to BAJ Business School’s Higher National Diploma in Business, Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management or Marketing pathways.

The Business Enviroment

This module introduces the learner to the different types of business organisations such as public, private, and charitable companies and the structures that such companies adopt in order to meet the challenges of the business environment. The module helps you understand the range of stakeholders who have an interest in and influence on a business. The module also explains the changing nature and pattern of employment. Moreover, it helps you learn to conduct a STEEPLE analysis and understand the impact of external factors on organisations.

How businesses and organisations work

This unit will provide an overview of key aspects of business. Learners will develop knowledge and understanding of business objectives and structure, customer service, and resource requirements. In essence, it helps you understand the objectives of organisations, the importance of customers and customer service for organisations, organisational structures and legal identities of organisations, the resources required by organisations and basic financial statements.

Market research

This unit focuses to develop knowledge and understanding of key marketing principles and practices with a focus on market research. Learners will apply the principles to complete a market research project. They will also develop their research skills by applying these to the completion of the chosen market research project. In essence, it will help you understand how legislation and ethics impact market research activity, how to select and plan market research, undertake market research and learn to interpret and present the results of your research, create a report of your research and findings, and finally reflect upon your research skills.

Business communications

This communication module provides learners with an opportunity to develop their personal communication skills needed to be able to work as part of a team. The module looks at the importance of effective internal and external communication, being able to communicate complex business information effectively in both oral and written forms, understanding how organisations communicate with customers and learning to review personal communication skills.

Working in teams

This unit will provide an overview of key aspects of working with other people. Learners will gain knowledge and understanding of teams and team roles. There is also an opportunity for learners to develop their own employability skills. In essence, it focuses on how to work in teams, understand leadership and motivation when working in teams, and be able to review own employability skills.
