Biography

Lauren Hiney is the founder and designer behind Lavey London, a fine jewellery brand born during a challenging period in her life, when creativity became both a source of healing and purpose. With a background in product development, Lauren developed an early awareness of the environmental and ethical challenges of mass production, inspiring her commitment to slow, conscious design.

Lavey London’s wedding and engagement collections reflect Lauren’s signature delicate aesthetic, featuring made-to-order pieces crafted using lab-grown diamonds and recycled gold. Sustainability, quality craftsmanship, and thoughtful design remain at the heart of the brand.

As a former student of BAJ, Lauren credits her studies with helping to strengthen her technical skills and confidence as a designer. The hands-on training and industry-focused approach enabled her to develop her ideas into finished pieces and build the foundations of her business.

Q&A
How would you describe your experience at BAJ in one sentence?

BAJ was the perfect environment to build my confidence, develop my technical skills, and immerse myself in the jewellery industry.

What did you enjoy most about your time at BAJ?

I really valued the opportunity to learn in such a hands-on and practical way. Being taught in a small group with one-to-one support meant I could absorb a huge amount of knowledge in a short space of time. The resources and expert guidance also helped strengthen my CAD skills and confidence. It was an inspiring experience that has had a lasting impact on my approach to jewellery design.

What’s the most valuable skill or lesson you gained at BAJ that you’ll carry forward?

The most valuable thing I gained from BAJ was confidence in my design process and technical decision-making. Learning directly from industry professionals strengthened my Rhino and CAD skills and gave me a deeper understanding of how to turn creative ideas into production-ready pieces. It enabled me to translate my designs more effectively and elevate my collection. I’ll carry those skills forward as I continue to grow Lavey London.

What are your future plans?

Since completing the Rhino for Jewellery course at BAJ, I have continued to grow my fine jewellery brand, Lavey London. The course has enabled me to develop more complex pieces and elevate my designs. I launched my first wedding and engagement collection, combining my signature aesthetic with a commitment to ethical production and quality craftsmanship.

All pieces are made to order in Hatton Garden using recycled precious metals and lab-grown diamonds. Looking ahead, I plan to continue developing collections and creating meaningful jewellery that celebrates life’s milestones while championing a conscious approach to jewellery design.

Would you recommend BAJ to others?

Yes, I would absolutely recommend BAJ to others. Coming from a self-taught background, I found the experience incredibly valuable in helping me build confidence in my technical abilities while learning directly from experienced industry professionals.

The Rhino for Jewellery course was practical, engaging, and immediately applicable to my work. I also appreciated the opportunity to connect with like-minded people in the industry. The supportive environment, expert guidance, and sense of community made it a truly worthwhile experience that has had a lasting impact on my journey as a jewellery designer.
