BAJ Level 5
Diploma in Jewellery Design and Manufacturing

Biography

SELINA YANG is a jewellery brand established by Selina after graduating from the London College of Fashion with a Bachelor of Fashion Jewellery Design in 2021. To further her jewellery-making skills, she completed the Level 5 Diploma in Jewellery Design and Manufacturing at BAJ. After moving to London in 2018, Selina spent time exploring the city’s many antique markets.

Through this, she discovered the charm of second-hand and damaged antique jewellery and began to recycle, rebuild, and bring these fragments back to life, focusing on the sustainable development of materials.

SELINA YANG hopes that this reborn jewellery can be both aesthetically pleasing and emotionally connect with the wearer, encouraging people to be their truest selves.

Q & A
What were you doing before BAJ?
In 2021, after completing the BA Jewellery course at the London College of Fashion, I wanted to further improve my jewellery-making skills. Following the advice of my technician, Hollie Paxton, I enrolled in the Level 5 Diploma in Jewellery Design and Manufacturing at the British Academy of Jewellery. I also brought my jewellery brand, SELINA YANG, with me to BAJ, which helped me develop and complete my design practice.
What inspired you to join BAJ?
I have always been very interested in jewellery manufacturing and production. Understanding the specific production process of jewellery is very important for the finished jewellery, which plays a key role in your ideas. After graduating, I wanted to further improve my jewellery skills, so I asked our technician, Hollie, and came to BAJ.
What’s the most valuable skill or lesson you gained at BAJ?

It’s difficult to choose just one, as I gained many skills from the course that will be instrumental in my jewellery career. I would say confidence in bench skills in general has been most valuable for me.

What are your future plans?
To become a fully qualified polisher at GRAFF through my junior polishing role.
Would you recommend BAJ to others?
I think to anyone who wishes to become a serious jeweller and gain a foothold in the industry, there is no better place to start your journey.
