BAJ Partners with Renowned Jeweller Lewis Malka for Exciting Project

We are thrilled to announce the latest innovative project in our ongoing partnership with celebrated engagement ring specialist Lewis Malka. This unique initiative will see students from our HNC Art & Design 3D Design (Jewellery Design and Manufacturing) course designing and manufacturing bespoke engagement rings inspired by culture and getting feedback from Lewis Malka.

Introducing the Lewis Malka Project

The project, an integral part of BAJ’s curriculum, provides students with hands-on experience in the jewellery industry while fostering creativity and innovation. With the support of Lewis Malka, renowned for his exceptional craftsmanship and contemporary designs, students will have the opportunity to showcase their talents and push the boundaries of traditional jewellery design.

The brief for the project is equally captivating: students are tasked with creating a one-of-a-kind engagement ring that celebrates a chosen culture. From exploring the rich tapestry of cultural betrothal customs and various cultures to delving into the history of engagement rings, students will embark on a journey of discovery, incorporating their findings into their designs.

About the HNC Art & Design 3D (Jewellery) course

“We are delighted to partner with Lewis Malka for this exciting project,” said Eleni Zolia, Course Leader HNC Art & Design 3D (Jewellery). “This collaboration not only provides our students with invaluable industry experience but also encourages them to explore the diverse cultural narratives surrounding engagement rings, paving the way for innovative and meaningful designs.”

What to expect from the project

The project brief challenges students to think creatively and critically, considering various aspects such as the design, materials, techniques, and production methods. Each engagement ring design will feature a faceted stone and will be presented on a stand designed by the students themselves, effectively communicating the cultural inspiration behind their creations.

“This project offers a unique opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the world of jewellery design,” said Lewis Malka. “I’m excited to work alongside these talented individuals and witness their creativity unfold as they explore the intersection of culture, history, and craftsmanship.”

The project’s culmination will be an exhibition showcasing the students’ bespoke engagement rings, along with their accompanying display stands and information guides. Lewis will select two designs, these two students will win a copy of his book: The Engagement Ring.
