In this episode, we speak to Paola De Luca, founder of The Futurist Ltd, a creative intelligence agency specialising in strategic and editorial projects in the luxury and jewellery sectors. Paola reflects on her career, the year 2020, trend forecasting and what is in store for 2021.
Paola De Luca is a creative director and forecaster born in Rome. She moved to New York in the early ’90s, landing her first job as a jewellery and watch designer. There, Paola designed the first Fendi jewellery collection under the creative direction of Karl Lagerfeld, supported by Carla Fendi. She continued with prestigious collaborations under the wing of Fulvia Ferragamo Visconti, acting as design director for Swarovski’s special projects.
For a decade, Paola held the role of Global Design Director for UnoAErre, one of the world’s largest gold exporters. In 2002, Paola launched The TrendBook, the first forecasting publication for the jewellery and watch industry, partnering with the CRU Group in London.
In 2012 Paola co-founded Trendvision Jewellery + Forecasting, in collaboration with VicenzaOro, part of the IEG Group, as an independent observatory that focuses on consumer culture and market trends focusing on the jewellery and watch industries. Under the aegis of The Futurist Ltd, Paola and her international team of talents lead strategic projects offering exclusive research, creative intelligence, educational programs, editorial projects, and exclusive events. The Futurist’s clients include brands, mining groups, government organisations, trade shows, and academic institutions.
