Beginner-friendly. Professionally taught.
BAJ has launched a new series of short jewellery courses designed to give beginners and aspiring makers hands-on experience in a professional workshop. Running from April to July 2026, the courses allow participants to develop practical jewellery-making skills while working with professional tools and materials.

Open to beginners and returning makers
The courses welcome a wide range of participants, including creative individuals and hobbyists looking to develop or refresh jewellery-making skills, art and design students or graduates wanting to add bench experience to their portfolio, gap-year learners seeking structured creative courses, and career changers exploring a new direction.
No prior experience is required, making the courses accessible to anyone interested in learning practical jewellery skills in a supportive workshop environment.

Learning by doing
Participants gain hands-on experience at the jewellery bench, working with tools and materials to create finished pieces during the course. The practical approach allows learners to explore techniques used in professional jewellery-making while building confidence in their own creative abilities.
For some, the courses provide a stepping stone to further training, while others take part to develop skills for personal creative practice.

Participant experience
“Taking part in a BAJ short course gave me the confidence to try new techniques, build my portfolio, and understand what working at a professional jewellery bench really involves. I’m thrilled these courses are returning, and I know many past students who are eager to get involved again.”
– Emily, BAJ short course participant

Making jewellery skills accessible
“These short courses are a great way for people to return to making or try jewellery for the first time in a professional workshop environment. We want to make jewellery skills accessible and inspiring for everyone, whatever their background.”
-Kate Rieppel, Head of FE Jewellery

Building confidence for the next step
Led by practising jewellers, the sessions focus on real bench techniques used in professional jewellery-making. Participants work on practical projects while gaining insight into the craft and the working environment of a jewellery workshop.
For those considering further training, the courses provide an opportunity to build confidence and experience before progressing to more advanced programmes.
