Deputy Head of Creative Practices and Jewellery Diploma Tutor

Biography

Joana has been appointed Deputy Head of Creative Practices at the British Academy of Jewellery, bringing extensive experience across jewellery design, making, CAD and creative education.

She is an experienced Jewellery Designer/Maker, CAD Designer, and Educator, with a career spanning creative practice and industry and teaching. She achieved her MA in Jewellery Design from London Metropolitan University in 2011 and successfully ran her own practice for a decade. Her jewellery has been exhibited both in the UK, including at the prestigious Goldsmiths’ Fair, and internationally.

Alongside her teaching, Joana offers a range of services to the jewellery industry, including product development, CAD services and CAD training. She combines her deep expertise in jewellery design and manufacturing alongside her extensive proficiency with CAD to create precise 3D models for jewellery production. Joana is skilled in using Rhino 3D for model creation and is an authorised Rhino trainer certified by McNeel.

Joana is passionate about integrating traditional jewellery hand-making techniques with modern technologies. She enjoys collaborating with students to develop their Design  Identity and identify the most effective production processes for bringing their designs to life.

In her new role, Joana will support the continued development of BAJ’s Further Education programmes, bringing her industry experience, technical expertise and passion for creative education to enhance the learner experience
