Nicholas

Yiannarakis

HE Lecturer

Biography

Nicholas’s journey in jewellery began in Athens, in a prestigious shop nestled in the city’s centre. Spending countless hours observing the exquisite handcrafted pieces, he was captivated by the artistry and craftsmanship. During school breaks and summer holidays, he embarked on an apprenticeship under the guidance of a Greek Master, immersing himself in the world of jewellery making. Alongside this apprenticeship, Nicholas devoted himself to practising at home, honing his skills and deepening his understanding of jewellery design and manufacture. This early hands-on experience laid a solid foundation for his formal education in the field at London Metropolitan University and Central Saint Martins.

His talent soon found recognition in esteemed galleries such as Lesley Craze and Electrum, where his unique blend of lapidary techniques and traditional goldsmithing earned him acclaim and admiration. Nicholas continues to create unique, one-of-a-kind pieces, working directly with collectors, participating in fairs, and being represented by contemporary jewellery galleries across the country.

That same year, Nicholas was invited to teach the academy’s first group of young apprentices, supporting them in their initial industry steps. This challenge allowed him to merge his expertise in goldsmithing with his passion for teaching. Over the last 13 years, Nicholas has guided hundreds of jewellery enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels at the academy.

Nicholas’s commitment to education extends beyond the classroom. He played a key role in establishing an apprenticeship program, guiding young jewellers through their initial steps in the industry. Despite his teaching commitments, Nicholas continues to pursue his own artistic endeavours, finding inspiration in his interactions with students.
