In keeping with the British Academy of Jewellery’s commitment to the provision of high-level technical training for the jewellery industry, we are pleased to announce the launch of our first interactive online training courses.
The introduction of the new online course portfolio reflects BAJ’s commitment to responding to the evolving needs of the industry and broadening access to jewellery education. The online courses will enable jewellery industry professionals to further their skills and knowledge in their selected area whilst working from home.
BAJ’s online training will be delivered via an innovative format including combinations of live expert instruction; discussions, tutorials and Q&A’s. Studying in small groups via BAJ’s interactive digital learning platform, students will receive individual feedback on their projects from tutors in order to achieve effective skill progression. The platform will also provide them with a space in which they can interact with other course participants.
The first online short course to launch is Jewellery Retail Essentials. Providing an introduction to the materials, techniques and terminology of fine jewellery, this course is designed to boost learners’ professional skills, enabling them to speak confidently about jewellery — thereby providing a first-class customer experience.
Topics covered by the course include jewellery history, the domestic and international jewellery markets, fine jewellery production, gemmology, jewellery components, metallurgy, precious metals, hallmarking, and proper jewellery care. This range of content on in-demand areas in jewellery retail makes it an ideal introduction for beginners and as a refresher for those with more experience aiming to consolidate their knowledge.
Starting on June 11th, the course runs over three days and is held one day per week from 10am-5pm. Course fees are £299 per student and learners will receive a BAJ certificate upon completing the course.
Other online courses will be added on a rolling basis. Additional online courses at BAJ include the De Beers Diamond Certificate, which can be accessed at a reduced fee for learners signing up through BAJ.
