Overview

Create a brooch, pendant, or charm while exploring experimental riveting techniques using cold connections.

By the end of this practical course, you’ll have completed your piece. You’ll experiment with a range of riveting methods to join metal pieces without heat or solder, creating both functional joins and decorative details. Through hands-on exploration, you’ll try different rivets, materials, and approaches, building creative confidence and practical skills.

Entry requirements

No previous experience is required. Some knowledge of basic jewellery making techniques are an advantage, but are not essential.

No funding is available for short courses but as a student or alumni of the past 3 years, you may be entitled to a 10% discount. To find out if you are eligible, please enquire to speak with our recruitment team.

What You Will Learn

  • Experiment with a range of riveting techniques, including flush rivets, tube rivets, and the use of washers.
  • Create functional and decorative joints, including parts that move or pivot.
  • Rivet together a variety of materials – metal, acrylic, textiles, and paper- using cold connection techniques.
  • Build confidence in experimenting with materials through sample-making and evaluation.
  • Design and make a small piece of jewellery, such as a brooch or pendant, that showcases experimental riveting techniques.
