Introducing: Level 3 Diploma in Jewellery Design and Manufacturing

We are excited to delve into our Level 3 Diploma in Jewellery Design and Manufacturing course which includes comprehensive training in practical manufacturing skills and an in-depth exploration of the jewellery industry, its rich history, and cultural significance.

Over the course of one year,  learners explore a wide variety of introductory-level manufacturing techniques and learn practical design skills in both jewellery design and 2D computer-aided design (CAD). Learners also gain an introduction to jewellery history, metallurgy and creative-thinking exercises, taught by BAJ’s experienced tutors in both practical workshop sessions and theoretical classes.

“Whilst being at BAJ I started the research on starting my own jewellery business mainly focusing on grillz and handmade new style hip hop jewellery with some aid from my tutor. Now not only do I have my own company but I work with other grillz companies doing waxing and casting.

Overall I feel that even though I was only at the BAJ for a year, I gained a huge variety of skills that have allowed me to begin my career in jewellery. And I would highly recommend it to anyone that wants to learn about the creation of jewellery as all the tutors are very supportive and all have experience in the jewellery trade from CAD designers, stone setters, designers, and bench workers.” – Quote from Leo Dye, Level 3 Diploma in Jewellery Design and Manufacturing graduate, 2021 (@k9grillzuk).

Suitable for complete beginners and those with experience, this course offers comprehensive training in both traditional and modern jewellery-making techniques. Additionally, learners will learn how to carve and produce wax models for casting as well as crafting rings and chains. In design lessons, learners will explore technical drawing, maquette-making, and various design processes, while also learning how to research and develop a design brief with the chance to bring designs to life in manufacturing projects. The course also incorporates training in Rhino, providing valuable experience with computer-aided design (CAD) and the possibilities of computer-aided manufacturing (CAM).

Learners will obtain an accredited SQA Level 3 qualification in Jewellery Design and Manufacturing as well as many manufactured pieces, including designing and making their own unique and personal final project. The course will also prepare students who are looking to progress to BAJ’s HNC 3D Design (Jewellery Design and Manufacturing) or BA (Hons) Jewellery Design & Production
