Overview

Discover the basics of vitreous enamelling in this hands-on course.

You will create a selection of sample pieces, with the option to make a pendant or pair of earrings using the techniques taught. Learn to fuse finely ground glass powders to metal using heat, and explore colour, surface, and pattern in your jewellery creations.

Bring your creativity to life as you design patterns with stencils and stamps. You’re welcome to bring your own stamps or stencils to make your work uniquely yours.

Entry requirements

No previous experience is required. However, some knowledge of basic jewellery-making techniques, such as using a piercing saw and drill, is advantageous.

  • Fundamentals of vitreous enamelling and fusing glass powders to metal.
  • Safe use of enamels with health and safety best practices.
  • Preparing metal and applying enamel using dry sifting techniques.
  • Creating layers, patterns, and textures for decorative effects.
  • Firing techniques for enamelled copper.
  • Using stencils, stamps, and silver foil for custom patterns.
  • Producing sample pieces, including a pendant or pair of earrings.
  • Gain confidence with enamel through practical tips and troubleshooting guidance .
