Course description

You will learn how to prepare metal for enamelling, as well as how to apply enamels through dry sifting and create effects, such as layers, patterns and texture, with stencils and stamps. As you learn, you will make a series of sample pieces and will have the option to create either a pendant or a pair of earrings with the techniques you have studied at the end of the course.

Entry requirements

No previous experience is required. However, some knowledge of basic jewellery-making techniques, such as using a piercing saw and drill, is advantageous.

What you will learn

During the two-day course, you will learn how to:

  • Take the necessary health and safety precautions when working with enamels
  • Prepare, apply and fire vitreous enamels using a variety of techniques
  • Create decorative enamel effects, including sieving enamels with stencils, stamps, and applying silver foil to surfaces
  • Troubleshooting and tips and tricks of enamelling techniques

You will create a range of sample pieces with the option to make a simple pendant or pair of earrings with the techniques you have learnt. Throughout the two days, your tutor will explain the principles of enamelling with examples and tips on effective techniques for enamelling jewellery.
