This year, the British Academy of Jewellery is pleased to announce the launch of its first foundation diploma, the BAJ Foundation Diploma in Art & Design, starting September 7th, 2020.
The BAJ Foundation Diploma in Art & Design is an innovative and challenging general art & design course, taught full-time over one year. This level-3 diploma provides a practical introduction to 3D making and materials. Focusing on material experimentation, design principals and aesthetics in addition to 2D and 3D design model generation, students will be introduced to a range of materials and methods of working through studio and workshop projects.
Learning how to research and develop ideas, students will complete their study through a varied combination of project work, assignments, presentations and group critiques. Exploration of a wide range of subjects by engaging with projects, lectures and study visits will enable students to identify their interests and ambitions and investigate future directions to pursue.
By the end of the course, students will be prepared for progression onto both jewellery or general art & design courses, having developed skills allowing them to pursue either specialist degree-level education or professional practice. Students will also have created a portfolio and prepared for interviews, for university or employment.
The BAJ Foundation culminates in a final project and end-of-year exhibition. Successful completion of the course can, subject to application lead to progression to our BA (Hons) in Jewellery Design and Production or a range of undergraduate courses at universities across the UK.
The course will be open to applications from UK, EU and international students able to show a portfolio of prior creative work in art and design.
