Selina (Mingjie) Yang, originally from China, was awarded the prestigious UK Global Talent Visa (Exceptional Promise) in Fashion Design, enabling her to continue building her jewellery career in London, a dream seven years in the making.

Determined to sharpen her design and making skills, Selina enrolled at the British Academy of Jewellery and brought her brand, SELINA YANG, with her. Immersed in a creative and collaborative environment, she developed hands-on expertise in jewellery production, 3D modelling, and brand marketing – skills that became the foundation for her professional journey.
Selina says: “Understanding the specific production process of jewellery is very important for the finished piece — it plays a key role in bringing your ideas to life.”
With supportive tutors and real-world industry connections at BAJ, Selina deepened both her technical and creative abilities. Today, she continues to grow her brand, combining sustainability with innovation, and is committed to sharing her knowledge with others. She was shortlisted for the Pewter Live competition 2024 in London, and won the Bronze Award in The Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council Awards, Diversity and Inclusion category.
For creative students unsure of their next step, Selina’s story shows how practical learning, a supportive community, and the right training can turn ambition into a fulfilling career in jewellery.
