On Thursday 13th February, we hosted ‘Jewellery for a Cause’, an art exhibition and sale run by our students, fundraising for charity.
Over 100 people attended the event, spending the evening at BAJ’s newly acquired Camden Town campus, taking in the art and mingling with industry professionals, staff, students and the wider BAJ community.
First and second-year BA (Hons) Jewellery Design and Production students collaborated in mixed-year groups to create and showcase striking ‘hero’ pieces, smaller charity designs and a fashion film to raise awareness and funds for their chosen causes. Each charity piece was on sale for under £5, adhering to the goal of creating affordable, accessible pieces with batch-production in mind. While the hero pieces highlighted the students’ standout creativity and craftsmanship, the charity designs reflected their commitment to using jewellery for social good.

Guests enjoyed popcorn and drinks alongside a film viewing of each group’s creative process, documenting their collaboration.
The Awards:
Three awards were bestowed upon the Jewellers-in-training, presented by special guest Anton Wiltshire, a London-based Design Consultant and Fashion Jeweller.

Best Charity Piece Design
British Beekeepers Association
Group members: Ruth Walter, Alana Sweet, Veroni Dimitrov, Ray Shaikh
“We designed a seeded paper origami bee brooch that can be worn and then planted to grow flowers, creating a haven for bees and other pollinators. All the funds raised have been donated to the British Beekeepers Association to further support bee conservation.”

Best Hero Piece Design
Sheldrick Wildlife Trust
Group members: Nadine McBurnie, Avant Williams, Bea Tilley Wyatt and Lily Straker
“Our hero piece is a twist on an elephant’s ear, using fold-forming to mimic the texture of an elephant’s skin.”
Best Fashion Film (Watch here)
Marine Conservation Society
Group members: Emily Murphy, Rebecca Prenga, Bayleigh Morris
“Within our team, we felt it necessary to highlight the ongoing crisis of our oceans’ pollution due to damaging human activity. Working in support of the Ocean Conservation Society and creating a selection of key rings, our film navigates the process of the project and how our final piece came to life.”
In total, the students raised over £480 for the following charities: Marine Conservation Society, British Beekeeping Association, Edible Landscapes London, Rainbow Trust, Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and Rewilding Britain. BAJ congratulates every group for their fantastic work, and a big thanks to Anton, who donated £60 to our students’ fundraising.
“At BAJ, we believe that design is more than aesthetics—it’s a powerful tool for change. This project showcased the incredible talent and social consciousness of our BA (Hons) Jewellery Design and Production students. Through creativity and collaboration, they transformed ideas into wearable statements that raise awareness and funds for important causes. This project is a testament to how higher education can inspire purpose-driven innovation, equipping our students with the skills and mindset to make a real impact in the world of jewellery and beyond.” – Phoebe Coleman (Design and Professional Practice Lecturer, BA (Hons) Jewellery Design and Production)
