The Jewellery Fundamentals SQA Level 3 Diploma allows students to build a comprehensive skillset covering essential and basic 2D and 3D design and manufacturing.

The accredited 10-month course provides learners with a large amount of contact hours with a diverse range of industry specialists and professional jewellers. Students will acquire a broad array of skills, from Computer Aided Design (CAD) and 2D drawing design, to manufacturing techniques, such as lost wax casting, piercing and soldering, and will also be taught how to research and respond to a brief.

The course serves as a perfect introduction to the world of jewellery making, as well as an ideal stepping stone for progressing to the BAJ’s Jewellery Design and Manufacturing Diploma.

The Jewellery Design and Manufacturing Diploma is a three-year course, accredited at SQA levels 4, 5 and 6, that permits learners to further hone their skills and develop their own unique style through in-depth training in advanced jewellery manufacturing and design techniques.

Students completing the full Jewellery Design and Manufacturing Diploma will leave the BAJ with an SQA Level 6 Diploma, as well as all the skills they need to start a career in the jewellery industry.

For learners seeking an apprenticeship, the BAJ also offers a Preparation for the Jewellery Industry SQA Level 2 Diploma. A six-month course designed with employment skills in mind, the PJI Diploma provides students with technical knowledge and real practical experience, as well as the opportunity to take part in a work experience placement.

Both the Jewellery Fundamentals SQA Level 3 Diploma and the Preparation for the Jewellery Industry SQA Level 2 Diploma are free for 16-18 year olds.

The BAJ is also delighted to announce that it has recently launched its first foundation diploma, the BAJ Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, an innovative and challenging general art and design course which allows students to develop skills that will support them as they move into more specialist degree level education or professional practice.

Focused on material experimentation, design principals and aesthetics, as well as 2D and 3D design, the BAJ Foundation Diploma in Art and Design helps students develop through a combination of project work, assignments, presentations and group critiques.

In line with advice from the UK Government and Public Health England, BAJ is currently closed until further notice due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. In light of this situation, interviews with prospective students are being held via video conferencing, while applicants wishing to visit the BAJ are invited to participate in our newly launched virtual open days.

Term dates for the upcoming academic year remain unchanged, with courses still scheduled to begin in September. BAJ is aware that social distancing measures may still be in place at this time and is working to prepare for all contingencies in order to ensure that courses can be delivered as effectively as possible.
