Course description

Conceived as the perfect next step for learners who have completed our Gemmology for Beginners course, this intermediate programme explores more advanced topics that provide jewellery students, industry professionals and retailers alike with invaluable knowledge and skills for recognising and understanding gemstones.

Entry requirements

Those wishing to take part in this intermediate programme should have a BAJ Certificate of Completion for our Gemmology for Beginners course or equivalent experience.

What you will learn

During this intermediate course you will learn about:

  • Professional equipment for identifying gemstones
  • Calculating the Carat of gemstones
  • Estimating the weight of stones
  • Optically isotropic or optically anisotropic gemstones

Progression

On completeion of this course we recommend our Diamond Grading for Beginners and Diamond Grading for Intermediates short courses.
